As a sub consultant to Herzog Technologies, Innovative Solutions provided hardware design and processor programming for Valley Metro Rail’s Central Mesa Extension. This extension of an existing EMU light rail line connected the downtown hubs of Phoenix, Mesa, and Tempe in Arizona. The existing light rail line utilized Alstom’s IVPI vital controller, whereas GE’s Electrologixs was proposed for the extension, so a project challenge was in the interface between the two systems. Innovative Solutions managed a sub consultant who designed the interface and supported its field verification.
Design included several interlocking areas with PF track circuits within interlockings and AF tracks between interlockings. Revenue service began six months ahead of schedule.
Total value of the project was $150 Million with Innovative Solutions’ value being $350,000.
